Defptr.exe - Windows 2000 Resource Kit Utility

The Windows 2000 Resource Kit includes many useful utilities. Many of these utilities will be familiar to Windows NT Server Resource Kit users. Many other are new in W2K. Many 'legacy' utilities have added functionality. The Resource Kit tools in the Windows 2000 Resource Kit are designed to run on Microsoft Windows 2000 server or workstation computers. The tools in the Resource Kit help you perform administrative tasks, automate software installation, and with other jobs.

Defptr.exe - Default Printer
Using this tool, you can easily change your default printer, switching between available network or local printers. Network printers tend to get busy at erratic intervals, which can require periodically switching the default to avoid "traffic jams." Default Printer allows you to toggle between available printers - local and network. The tool can be used for other purposes as well: for example, to switch printers while working in applications that support only the default printer
